Museu de São Roque





Just a very rapid glimpse at the newly opened São Roque museum. I am not a fan of guided tours and had one of the shyest and clumsiest guides, but I found out so many interesting things about the history of the place, the life of São Roque and the beautiful artworks of the museum, that I promised myself to return. The history of the place goes back to the 16th century, when Lisbon was literally swept of a wave of plague (coming from Venice). The King (King Manuel I) asked the Republic of Venice (ironically!) for a relic of Saint Roch, who was popular for his miracles and who helped victims of the plague in South Europe. This is how all began...
